Axie Infinity Seasonal MMR Reset Explained (Season 19)

Did your MMR suddenly drop after resetting the season? Do not panic !

This guide will explain in detail how the seasonal and offseason MMR system works in Axie Infinity.

Axie Infinity Season 19 MMR Reset Offseason Explained

Season vs off season in Axie Infinity

First, let's discuss the difference between a 'season' and an 'offseason'.

In Axie Infinity, an Arena Season is typically about a month long, followed by an offseason period for an additional 1 month, followed by another Arena Season, and so on.

In an Arena Season, players compete against each other to reach the top of the leaderboards by increasing their MMR.

During an offseason, players do not compete for AXS rewards at the end of the period. This is also where developers usually develop new features and decide on balance updates that will then be introduced the following season.

To give you an idea, here are the start and end dates of the last seasons and offseason:

  • Season 16 - March 22 to April 18, 2021
  • Off-season - April 18 to May 17, 2021
  • Season 17 - 17 May to 13 June 2021
  • Off-season - June 13 to August 9, 2021
  • Season 18 - August 9, 2021 to September 19, 2021
  • Off-season - September 19 to November 10, 2021
  • Season 19 - November 10 to December 21, 2021

At the end of a season, the best players will be rewarded with AXS tokens according to the MMR they ended up with.

For Season 19, here are the corresponding rewards by ranking.

Axie Infinity Season 19 Rankings AXS Rewards

To give all players an equal chance to move up the leaderboards, all players will start with 1200 MMR at the start of the season.

Then, once the season is over, all players' MMR will be reset to their off-season MMR.

Now where is the confusion.

How the Axie Infinity MMR System Works

Now let's see what the developers of Axie Infinity have announced regarding the MMR system.

Each player will have two types of MMR:

  1. Seasonal MMR
  2. MMR off season

What is seasonal MMR?

Seasonal MMR is used to rank players in the Season Leaderboards. The best players will receive the corresponding AXS rewards according to their rank.

Seasonal MMRs reset to 1200 at the start of a season. It's about giving everyone an equal chance to participate in the tournament.

Once an Arena Season ends, your MMR will reset to your Off Season MMR.

What is off-season MMR?

The off-season MMR is different from your seasonal MMR.

The off-season MMR is your original MMR before the start of a season. Your MMR will revert to this number when the season ends.

This type of MMR is not used to rank players in the leaderboards and there will be no AXS rewards for top players.

Seasonal vs off-season MMR example

To put everything we've learned so far, let's take a look at a real-life example.

Let's say you started playing Axie Infinity before Season 18 with an MMR of 1100.

Here's what your in-season and off-season MMRs can look like:

(Note: MMR in gras is what is displayed in the game)

Date: Seasonal MMR MMR off season
Before season 18 - 1100 MMR
Debut of the season 18 1200 MMR 1100 MMR
End of season 18 2000 MMR 1100 MMR
Start of the off-season - 1100 MMR
The off-season ends - 1800 MMR
Debut of the season 19 1200 MMR 1800 MMR
End of season 19 2100 MMR 1800 MMR
Start of the off-season - 1800 MMR

In this example, you started with 1100 MMR before the start of Season 18.

At the start of Season 18, your MMR will be set at 1200. This is now your Seasonal MMR and it will be used to rank you in the leaderboards (and earn AXS rewards at the end of the season).

Let's say you climbed to 2000 MMR until the last day of Season 18.

The next day, once the offseason begins, your MMR will revert to 1100, which was the offseason MMR you had before the 1200 reset.

Now let's say you climbed to 1800 MMR throughout the offseason. Once Season 19 begins, your MMR will reset to 1200 again so everyone has an equal chance of competing in the leaderboards.

Once Season 19 has ended and the offseason begins, your MMR will now revert to 1800, which was your last offseason MMR before the start of Season 19.

Conclusion

We hope this quick guide has helped you understand how Axie Infinity's latest MMR system works.
