iOS 11.2.2 and macOS 10.13.2, the new Apple updates to protect you from Specter

Last week we told you about Meltdown and Specter, two of the worst vulnerabilities discovered in the history of computing, hidden in the architecture of Intel, AMD and ARM processors, which have put the security of virtually every device. under control. Although this is a failure of the processors, it is not resolved simply with a firmware update, but to protect ourselves from it, it is necessary to update all operating systems and all applications. Little by little, developers are encouraged to do so, and now it's Apple's turn.

At the end of last week, Apple confirmed that all of its devices were vulnerable to Meltdown and Specter . After confirming this, the company worked to be able to roll out a security patch as soon as possible that allows users of their Mac computers and devices such as iPhone or iPad to fix these security loopholes so that they can use their computers. . in the best possible way.

A few hours ago, Apple released fixes for security long awaited for macOS and iOS. In the case of the desktop operating system, Apple has released the update to macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 , already available in the Mac App Store and which will protect Specter users and, also, in computers equipped with Intel processors, from Meltdown.

In the case of its mobile operating system, iOS, users who have an iPhone, iPad or iPod will receive a new version of their operating system, iOS 11.2.2 , an update that primarily focuses on resolving Specter on these devices.

Update iOS and macOS as soon as possible to no longer be vulnerable to Meltdown and Specter

Apple has been working on iOS 11.2.5 for some time, the next operating system update that will feature several fixes, optimizations, and new features, although as of yet it doesn't have an exact release date. (although it shouldn't take long to come out). Unlike this next version, the current 11.2.2 is a security update, very important but it has no major changes in the system, neither internal nor visible, it simply fixes this vulnerability on the iPhone, iPad and iPod.

Due to the scale of Meltdown and Specter, it is advisable to update our iOS devices and equipment MacOS with these new fixes as soon as possible , unless we are among those who prefer iOS 11 Jailbreak, although it does not help, until we make sure to protect our devices, in which case we can bypass this update, at our own risk.

Apple has not updated tvOS or WatchOS for the moment, although updating these devices shouldn't take much longer to arrive.

It will be several more months before we can be sure that all or nearly all devices are protected against Meltdown and Specter. These two vulnerabilities are without a doubt one of the worst computer threats we have faced in the history of computing, vulnerabilities that will go down in history alongside heartbleed et WannaCry.

Are you using an Apple device? Have you already installed these fixes to protect yourself from Meltdown and Specter?
