Microsoft adds cleanup of old updates in Windows 7

Updates are one of the most cumbersome aspects of Microsoft's operating system. All the updates that we download and install are stored on the hard drive as a backup, taking up considerable space on the drive. Although some tools like Ccleaner allow you to delete these files, the Windows Cleanup Tool did not allow you to delete them by default.

With the bulletins published this Tuesday by Microsoft, Windows 7 SP1 users were left with a pleasant surprise, and it is that from now on, the tool of disc cleaning allows removal of old Windows 7 update files.

According to Microsoft, they decided to add this option because, when updating Windows to a higher Service Pack, the same installation process removes all previous data, but Windows 7 Service Pack 1 already has more than 2 years, so the number of Files are quite large and unnecessarily occupy a space on the hard disk of users that should be available to it.

At this time, no details are known regarding a possible launch of a Service Pack 2 for Windows 7. Although users are actively requesting it, the company is absolutely silent on this matter.

From a technical point of view, this new function scans the WinSxS directory for obsolete update data which no longer serves the system and thus allows its elimination.

Microsoft states that in order to perform this task, the user must have administrator permissions on the computer and it is likely that they will need to restart the system to complete deleting all files without problems.

This new function is available in Computer> right click on C:> Properties> Free up space.

Have you tried the new delete old files feature in Windows 7 Updates?
