Problems with DOCX documents when opening in Word 2016? Blame it on Microsoft hotfix KB4011730

March is definitely not one of Microsoft's best months for updates. That same week, Microsoft released its new security patches for March 2018, in addition to a series of cumulative updates for Windows and Office, fixes that address all kinds of issues, both in terms of performance and stability and security. However, unfortunately for users, none of these updates have been without issues.

After update installation issues KB4088776 in Windows 10 and many users of Windows 7 Without internet after installing the latest patches, a new wave of problems appears, this time related to Office, especially Word 2016.

Many users reported that after installing the update KB4011730, cumulative update for Office, there were many issues when trying to open all types of DOCX documents . This update in question was released by Microsoft to address a remote code execution issue when opening a purpose-modified document type from Word.

The update seems to fix the problem, but it can do too much as many users claim that Word 2016 throws an error when trying to open, and even trying to save, some harmless DOCX documents.

Microsoft has already confirmed the issues with this update, and although it finds a way to resolve them, it is advising users at this time that after installing the patch, they may experience these issues, but does not indicate not how to solve them except to wait for them.

How to fix issues with Word 2016 after update KB4011730

It is not clear what Microsoft did to cause these files to stop working properly in the operating system, but it seems that one of the ways to fix this is to install the corrective KB4018295 , a hotfix released on March 6 (before the KB4011730 update was released) and that after installation everything works normally again.

Another solution that also restores Word to work properly is to uninstall update KB4011730 which causes problems with Office, leaving our computer exposed, but, at least, functioning normally. The problem with choosing to uninstall the update is that Windows will download and install it again at any time, so it's likely that in a few days we'll get to that.

The company's engineers are already analyzing the vulnerability and finding a possible solution, a solution that will reach all users with the next fixes for Office, which we do not know when they will arrive, and which will allow us to '' be protected from this vulnerability while the entire Office suite is operating normally.
