Tiktok creators have super-cheap Spotify clone that could burst the market

Spotify is the king of music streaming platforms around the world. With more than 230 million users - more than half paying - no service can stand up to it today, even if its reign is not assured for the future. After the launch of Apple Music or Tidal, others companies encourage each other to create their own platforms.

This is the case with TikTok. After conquering millions of young people around the world with their clips, the creators of the app are already testing the operation of an ultra-cheap Spotify clone that could revolutionize the market in the near future. Write his name: Resso.

TikTok creators plan to launch music streaming app

While Bloomberg moved forward this Wednesday, ByteDance Inc., the company responsible for TikTok, is already testing in some emerging markets such as India and Indonesia the operation of Resso, a music streaming application that has accumulated more than 27 users Android from iOS since its launch six months ago.

In countries where Spotify does not yet have such relevance, despite the fact that it has already launched its light version called Spotify Lite, ByteDance wants to move forward by creating a solid user base that it intends to seduce. with a subscription of 119 rupees per month (around 1,50 euros), the same as Spotify.

After having seduced you with a package at the same price as the competition, the owners of TikTok want to convince the public with a music application with very different functionalities from other platforms. First, users can add their own comments to each song, no longer being able to read messages posted by others.

In Resso they can also read song lyrics and even add those that have not yet been integrated. Users who subscribe to the premium version of the music service can also download the songs so that they can listen to them when they do not have an internet connection, without having to resort to other forms of downloading, such as applications to download music.

Among the most remarkable features of Resso is "Vibes", which offers the possibility of create music videos or GIFs in true TikTok style and add them to the song being used so that other users who listen to it can see them. By pressing the play button, the user can choose whether they want to see the song design or the home videos posted by other users.

For the moment, ByteDance only has the musical rights to T-Series and Times Music, its catalog is therefore nothing compared to that of the competition. However, if he manages to secure the rights to labels like Warner, Sony or Universal, Resso will have a lot to say in the market.

"We are optimistic about its long-term outlook, but we are still very early in the process and only in a limited number of developing markets", explained a representative of Resso to Bloomberg, confirming that his arrival in India and Indonesia is a reality. . , but there is still much to see if this app can become a real competitor in the battle in which Spotify, Apple Music or Tidal are already engaged in the world.
