Memes and Lies: WhatsApp and Telegram Rhythm in Epic Twitter Chat
In what seemed like a quiet Monday, Telegram and WhatsApp, two of the world's most popular messaging apps, became protagonists when they engaged in a curious brawl via Twitter.
It all started when Telegram, referring to the controversial new privacy policy de WhatsApp which came into effect on May 15, published the picture at the top of this article. And curiously, from WhatsApp they did not hesitate to answer… Even if the result was far from the desired one.
Telegram 1 - WhatsApp 0
Shortly after the image was posted, WhatsApp responded to the tweet with a meme in which they didn't care about the lack of end-to-end encryption in Telegram chats. Something totally true, as the paper plane email app only has this encryption method enabled by default in secret cats.
More Telegram was able to respond. In another tweet, they indicate that "their users know how things work", and refer to the philosophy open source of the platform, ensuring that the application code can be viewed to verify the security of the service.
Telegram administrator: “?? and what people don't know is that we're not end-to-end encrypted by default ” pic.twitter.com/yac1iSMc27

Although the thing does not end there. The said tweet was accompanied by an image of an alleged WhatsApp conversation, where Telegram shows that in reality the WhatsApp messages are not 100% secure since the WhatsApp backups made to Google Drive and iCloud are not encrypted.
. @WhatsApp Our users know how things work and have open source applications to PROVE it. You?? talk to the screenshot? she says you are lying. pic.twitter.com/aSUotBGWh0

To this day we know that WhatsApp is working on adding end-to-end encryption to its cloud backups. But we also know that in the past this lack of security has caused leaked messages and chats.
And the truth is that the discussion ended there. Faced with arguments that are difficult to refute, WhatsApp decided to remain silent and not respond to Telegram's tweet, showing that, perhaps, he wasn't quite ready to get into this fight.
