Let's start!

What is a web domain?

Let's start with the basics. A web domain is a personal or business environment on the Internet. This is an online property that you have complete control over, as long as you have the rights to this name ...

Domain names can be imaginative or descriptive in a transparent way, they can be used for everything from a personal blog to a multinational corporation's public site, and having one or more of them is essential to be visible in an online world. overcrowded.

Knowing how domain names work and why they are needed can help you choose the right name for your business or personal site.

Why does a web domain need a name?

A web domain allows anyone to claim "territory" on the Internet. The way to secure this territory online is to simply create a unique name and register it as a domain, or purchase an existing domain name from a domain marketplace or private seller.

Every web domain is unique

Each domain should have a unique name that sets it apart from all the others and only points to a single website ...

That is why anyone buying and registering a domain name should carefully research the perfect web address by performing a domain name search to find out if it is already in use. If so, it is prohibited, unless the owner is willing to sell it.

Anyone can create a web domain

If a domain name is available, any Internet user can buy it, which in reality amounts to paying a royalty for the exclusive rights of this name for a period which can vary from one year to more than a decade ...

After registering a domain name, it becomes the owner's public address on the Internet and the gateway to access the Internet site attached to the name. But a domain name is just a proxy for the real locator - the IP address.

What is the use of having a web domain?

Having a web domain allows you to own a particular web address, where you can create a blog, a sales site or design a web page from scratch...

This will give you the copyright of the name you have chosen and the URL of the domain!

Choosing the right web domain name

Deciding and registering a domain name doesn't have to be done in a rush. It is a valuable research and marketing tool that should drive customers to your site successfully. It is important to do your research before purchasing a domain.

Benefits of a strong web domain name

A strong domain name is important for businesses of any size, at any stage of development. It will attract consumers with a nimble slogan or a unique title, it should promote a sense of professionalism and satisfaction, and it should set your business apart from others in your industry ...

Think of it as if you are deciding on a business logo because the two have to go hand in hand. Your domain name should reflect your brand, simple and memorable.

How to create your own web domain?

How to create a web domain in 3 easy steps

  1. Decide on the web domain name you will use.
  2. Choose a web domain registrar.
  3. Buy your web domain.

Let's take a look at exactly what's involved in each step and how to complete them.

Step # 1: Decide on the web domain name

There aren't many rules or technical restrictions when it comes to getting a domain name. Basically you can save any  domain name, provided that:

  • No one else took it (it's available).
  • It consists only of alphanumeric characters (az, AZ, 0-9) and dashes; you cannot use spaces.

So technically speaking, that opens up endless possibilities for you. However, not all domain names are the same.

What must have a good domain name?

You shouldn't think of domain names as just Internet addresses. There are also other things at stake ...

The right domain extension (or TLD)

When registering a domain name, you can choose from a variety of TLDs (also called top level domain names  ou  domain extensions). Among others, you can choose between: .com, .net, .org.

However, the general rule of thumb is to target le.com (the most popular TLD), unless you are operating in a local market. In this case, you can opt for a local TLD based on the country.

Custom TLDs

Finally, in addition to national TLDs, we now also have access to hundreds of custom TLDs. For example, you can now get TLDs like: .pizza, .love, .life, .blog, etc.

Note: From a technical standpoint, it doesn't matter much which top-level domain you choose. More or less, it's just one more clue for your visitors to what type of website you have.

For example, if I can get a .food or .food domain, it probably means that the site will have something to do with food.

Easy to remember

A domain name cannot be too long or too complicated. In general, the shorter the better. One thing you can do is imagine yourself spelling your domain over the phone to someone. If it is difficult to spell, it will also be difficult to remember.

Of course

The more your domain name reveals about your business, the better. In 99% of cases, your domain should be a version of your business name, whenever it's available. Therefore, ideally, your domain name should be able to clearly explain what your site is and what it offers.

Respect copyright

When registering a domain name, it is possible to accidentally infringe on someone's trademark. For example, if by some miracle you could get: macdonalds.blog you would be in big legal trouble ...

How to create a web domain without violating copyright?

It is always a good idea to make sure that the name you plan to register does not infringe any trademark. The easiest way to check is to simply search for the terms that interest you.

You can create two to five domain names that you think are potentially interesting for you or your business.

For example:

eltallerdelemprendedor.com

eltallerdelemprendedor.org

eltallerdelemprendedor.net

Step # 2: Choose a web domain registrar

Now that you know which web domain name you want to register and know that it is available, you can go to the domain registrar of your choice and purchase the domain.

A web domain registrar is a company that can register a domain name on your behalf and then give you full access to that domain.

Where can I register my web domain?

There are many domain registrars out there, and it's up to you which one you want to work with. However, for the most part there is not much difference between them because you can buy any  domain name from  any  registrar, with one small exception ...

If you want to go for a local domain, you can buy it from a local domain registrar.

Quality web domain registrars

Some of the more popular global registrars include:

Each of these companies has a slightly different user interface, but what you end up with is the same - a shiny new domain name. For more information, read our article with The best hosting to create your website.
