How to Create a YouTube Channel in 3 Steps

To begin the process of creating your YouTube channel, you will need a Google account. Remember that a Google account is the same one that you can use for services like Gmail, Google, YouTube, etc.

Step # 1: Go to YouTube and Login

Then, sign in with the Google account you want to link your channel to ...

Step # 2: Go to YouTube Settings

In the upper right corner of the screen, click on your profile icon, then click on “Create channel”.

Step 3: Create your channel

You will then have the option of creating a personal channel or a channel with a personalized name.

For this example, we'll choose the 'Use a custom name' option, which is recommended for small businesses and brands:

Then you need to give your channel a name ...

As you can see, in the settings of this step, creating a new channel name will also create a new Google Account with your own YouTube settings and history.

This account is nested in your main Google account and can be fully managed from Google settings. This is very useful because you can use this new account to like and comment on other YouTube videos and participate in YouTube as a brand.

Personalize your YouTube channel more from the start

After this step, you will have the option to further personalize your channel. You will see options for:

  • Upload a profile picture.
  • Add a description of your channel.
  • Add links to your sites: This can include custom links to a website or blog, as well as social links to Instagram or Twitter.

Then you need to fill in all the information and create the channel layout to make your page amazing.

How to design a YouTube channel

The YouTube channel layout is basically the background image for your channel.

The channel layout shows up prominently on your YouTube channel, which means it is absolutely vital for any YouTube channel to use a custom layout to share your personality or more about your brand with your audience.

The perfect sizes for your chain design

The best place to start designing your channel is to use an optimal frame size that works across multiple devices. For best results, YouTube recommends uploading a single image of 2560 1440 pixels x.

Minimum width

2048 x 1152 pixels. This is the 'safe zone', where text and logos are guaranteed not to be cut off when viewed on different devices.

Maximum width

2560 x 423 pixels. This means that the "safe zone" is always visible; areas on either side of the channel layout are visible depending on the size of the viewer's browser.

File size

6 MB or less is recommended .

YouTube is available on many different devices, from the small one like an iPhone to the large one like a 60 inch TV. On TVs, the channel layout appears in the background, behind your channel content. On desktops and mobile devices, it appears as a banner at the top.

Tips for designing your YouTube channel

The safe area for text and logo is the 1546 x 423 pixel space in the center of the YouTube channel layout template (see “Safe Area” template above). This is the area that will be displayed on YouTube when your channel is viewed on desktop screens.

Traditionally, parts outside the safe zone are at risk of being obscured or unreadable due to overlapping social links or profile pictures.

Make sure that all important information, such as branding, text, taglines and key images are in the secure space so that they always appear as part of your channel's layout on all electronics.

2.- Consider the links on your cover

YouTube allows you to add links to your channel and these are displayed in the lower right corner of your cover ...

When creating your channel layout, it's important to think about how much space these links take up and make sure nothing important (like logos) takes up that space in your layout. .

How to add your channel icon (profile picture)

Each channel also has space for an icon / profile photo. This is the icon that appears next to your videos and channel on all YouTube pages. The key here is to select something that looks good in very small resolutions; many brands choose to use their logo here.

Your channel icon should be 800 x 800 pixels and one of the following formats: JPG, GIF, BMP, or PNG (no animated GIF).

To update your channel icon, go to your channel's home page and hover over your current channel icon until the edit icon appears. Click on this icon and you can upload a new profile icon.

Customize a YouTube channel

Here are 5 tips to get your YouTube channel off to a good start from minute 1:

# 1: Optimize your channel description

YouTube gives you space on your channel to write a little bit about your brand and the content you share on YouTube. The description is limited to 1000 characters, so you have some room to get creative here.

Your channel description text will not only appear on your channel page. It is indexed by search engines and may also appear on YouTube in suggested channel categories and search results.

A good tactic is to include mots - Keywords relevant and calls to action in the first few lines of your description.

Here's an example of a great description from VidIQ's YouTube channel in Spanish:

# 2: add links to your channel

You can have up to five links appear on your channel banner. Let's see how you can do it easily:

How to add links to your channel in 4 easy steps:

1.- Click on the “Customize channel” button on your channel's home page.

2.- Next, click on the gear icon in the upper right corner, just below the cover.

3.- You will see a light box for configuring channels. Here you need to activate the option titled "Customize your channel design":

Now that you've enabled customizations on your channel, go back to the homepage and you'll see the 'Edit Links' option in the settings menu on your homepage.

“Edit Links” will appear when you hover over the edit icon in your YouTube channel layout.

4.- Click on the “Edit links” option and you will be directed to the “About” section of your channel. Here you will have the option to add links and choose how many are displayed on your cover.

# 3: add a channel trailer

As soon as visitors land on your channel, you can give them an idea of what kind of content your channel covers and why they will want to subscribe and watch your videos. A channel trailer is the perfect way to do this.

A short, straightforward teaser can be a great way to introduce your content to people. It should grab attention as soon as it starts up.

It's also important to think about what description you add to this video, as it appears prominently on your channel's main page.

(These trailers only appear to people who haven't yet subscribed to your channel.)

# 4: Add your details

If you use YouTube as a business or creator, it can be helpful to have your contact details handy for anyone interested in your work. YouTube has a section on each channel profile for you to list your contact details for business inquiries.

You can find it in the "About" section of your channel. To find it, go to your channel's home page, click “About” in the navigation, then scroll down to “Details”.

Give a touch of professionalism to your channel

Adding your email address can be a great way for your fans and customers to contact you. But it's much better if you have your own web domain with your associated business email address.

You can get your own domain in order to have an email from your brand (ex: [email protected]). It will add a touch of professionalism to your brand. For this purpose, Bluehost is the best option I can recommend (considering the price-performance ratio).
